300 Russian soldiers arrive in Syria

SANAA, Oct. 25 (YPA) – The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Friday the arrival of 300 military police, reinforced by armored vehicles, to Syria to help the withdrawal of Kurdish forces from the border with Turkey.

According to the agency “Interfax” the Ministry of Defense said “Around 300 members of the military police of the armed forces in the Republic of Chechnya, and 20 armored vehicles of the type of Tiger and Typhoon-U arrived to Hmeimim air base in Syria to perform special missions.”

The Ministry of Defense added: “This unit will begin the implementation of the task of helping to ensure the safety of the population and the maintenance of law and order, and the conduct of patrols, and help in the withdrawal of the YPG and its weapons to a depth of 30 km inside Syrian territory.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have reached an agreement on a memorandum of understanding on Syria, which stipulates the preservation of the current situation in the region between Tel Abyad and Ras al-Ain, and the entry of Russian military police with Syrian forces to the adjacent areas with the withdrawal of Kurdish units.
