UN: 130,000+ people displaced due to military operations in Syria
SANAA, Oct. 14 (YPA) – More than 130,000 people have been displaced from rural areas around Syria’s northeastern border towns of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain as a result of fighting between Turkish-led forces and Kurdish factions, the United Nations said on Sunday.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement that it and other aid agencies estimate that up to 400,000 civilians in the area may need assistance and protection in the coming period.
Turkish forces targeted areas around the Syrian cities with fresh shelling, continuing their offensive against armed Kurdish factions for a fifth day.
