SHABWA, Aug. 24 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council has admitted defeat of its militias and the fall of its camps and headquarters in Ataq city of Shabwa province by Saudi-backed Hadi’s forces.
“The battle of the south against extremism and terrorism forces is continuing and open, and there is what is more important than a civilian building or a corner on a street,” Abdulaziz al-Sheikh, special secretary of head of the Council, commented on the fall of the council’s headquarters in Ataq city.
Al-Sheikh justified the collapse of the council’s militias by saying that “the protection of civilians and the preservation of population is a moral responsibility of our southern armed forces within the rules of war.”
On Friday evening, Hadi’s forces took control of the camps of so-called “Shabwani elite” militias affiliated to the southern council.
Earlier in the day, Hadi’s forces were able to take control of the transitional council’s building in Ataq city, the capital of Shabwa province, after fierce clashes.
