CALIFORNIA, July 6 (YPA) – A powerful magnitude 7.1 earthquake on the Richter scale shook Southern California on Friday after a day of the heaviest earthquake in the region for 25 years, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said on Saturday.

The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, 125 miles north of Los Angeles, and later fell to 6.9 degrees, according to the Euro-Med seismological agency.

Strong aftershocks rocked the desert region since an earthquake measuring 6.4 degrees hit the region on Thursday, officials said.

No injuries were reported. However, two houses caught fire after damaging their domestic gas pipelines.
