Health minister: 40,000 cases of cancerous tumors recorded per year due to aggression and blockade

SANAA, June 25 (YPA) – Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakil on Tuesday said that as much as 40,000 cases of tumours have been recorded each year in Yemen.

The Saudi-led coalition bombing is one of the most important reasons for the high incidence of tumours, he said.

” Over 20,000 people die every year from cancer-related tumours due to lack of health services and lack of treatment as a result of the siege imposed by of the US-backed Saudi-led aggression on Yemen,” Taha Al-Mutawakil said during a press conference in Sanaa.

He noted that in the capital Sanaa, only 25 to 35 cases of tumors were recorded on a daily basis and that is a catastrophic epidemiological situation.

He stressed that the countries of the aggression have prevent the travel of cancer patients for treatment abroad and at the same time prevent the entry of medical devices for the treatment of cancer patients.

The minister further stressed that aggression bombing contributes to the high incidence of tumors, which is one of the major reasons,.

He indicated that 25% die because of the aggression and blockade.

“Controlling on all ports by the coalition had plunged the country into carcinogenic substances,” he added.

“Today we are launching a major awareness campaign through the Cancer Prevention Fund of the Ministry of Health,” al-Mutawakil said, adding that the ministry has been conducting operations free of charge for all those with oncological diseases in public hospitals.

Minister of Health continued: the Coalition countries continue their intransigence in putting humiliating conditions on patients to obstruct the UN bridge to transport cancer patients for treatment abroad.

He renewed his call for lifting blockade on Sanaa airport in order to rescue thousands of patients threatened with death due to the closure of the airport and their inability to travel for treatment abroad.
