Saudi Arabia says two of its oil tankers damaged in sabotage attacks

SANAA, May 13 (YPA) -Saudi energy minister Khalid Al- Falaeh has revealed that two Saudi oil tankers were attacked early Sunday morning at 6:00 AM, and suffered “significant damage” while they were passing through the Gulf, the Akaz newspaper reported on Monday.

According to the Saudi newspaper, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister subsequently confirmed that no human casualties or fuel leakage have been reported, but the structure of the two ships was badly damaged.

“We affirm the shared responsibility of the international community to maintain the safety of Maritime Navigation and the security of oil tankers, in anticipation of the effects of energy markets and the seriousness of this on the global economy,” al-Faleh added.

The media reported strong explosions rocked the UAE port of Fujairah at dawn on Sunday, and reported that more than seven oil tankers were docked in the port of Fujairah at the moment of the explosion.

Media sources said that the explosions were strong and consecutive, and occurred between 4:00 and 7:00 a.m. The source has not yet been known, and both Saudi Arabia and the UAE are known for notoriously hiding information to the international community about matters such as these.

On Sunday evening, the UAE Foreign Ministry announced that four commercial cargo ships had been vandalized near the country’s territorial waters while heading towards the east coast near the emirate of Fujairah, in the UAE’s maritime economic zone.
