SANAA, April 23 (YPA) – Minister of Water and Environment on Tuesday discussed with the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lise Grande efforts to support projects of water and sanitation.
During the meeting, the Minister requested the UN intervention to transfer of the desalination units, which were brought from abroad to the city of Hodeidah, to Kamran Island, as islander are in urgent need for clean water, especially after targeting water reservoirs in the island by Saudi-led coalition warplanes.
Al-Wazir briefed the humanitarian coordinator on the problems facing the ministry, especially the delay in the arrival of diesel to the water institutions and its consequences, including the spread of cholera epidemic.
In this regard, the Minister noted to the ministry’s efforts to fight the cholera epidemic, praising the humanitarian coordinator’s efforts and her support for the ministry’s activities.
For her part, Grande confirmed her willingness to work to find realistic solutions for all those problems relating to the health situation in Yemen.
She also affirmed her keenness to follow-up funding and to urge donors to continue to support the water and environmental sector in Yemen.
