6.6 magnitude earthquake hits southwest Philippines

SANAA, April 23 (YPA) – A Powerful earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale hit southwest of Cebu City of Philippines on Tuesday morning,  the US Seismological center reported.

The quake was recorded at 8.37 a.m., about 226 kilometers southwest of Cebu City and 86 km deep, the center added.

Reports said Monday night that at least eight people killed when an earthquake measuring 6.1 degrees hit the main island of Lausanne in the Philippines.

The quake occurred 60 kilometers north-west of the capital Manila, disrupting air, road and rail transport and damaging buildings and infrastructure.

According to reports, Pampanga province is the most affected area.

The territory’s Governor Lilia Pineda confirmed that eight people were killed and about 20 injured.
