Oil unions continue to protest in front of UN Office in Sanaa

SANAA, April 7 (YPA) – The Yemeni Petroleum Company (YPC)’s trade unions on Sunday continued for the second consecutive day their open sit-in in front of the United Nations Office to protest against targeting oil facilities and holding oil ships by Saudi-led coalition forces.

Minister of Oil and Minerals Ahmed Daress said that the purpose of the sit-in is to demand the United Nations to carry out its humanitarian duty towards the suffering of Yemeni people due to holding oil derivatives ships and targeting oil facilities.

The minister stressed that the United Nations silence and complacency would lead to a humanitarian disaster, as the ban on the entry of oil derivatives affects Yemeni’s daily life in various aspects; in health, agriculture, transport, water sectors and others.

“The sit-ins come after the United Nations ignored demands of the protesters and the Yemeni people in general and after seven vigils,” said Mohammed al-Ashram, head of the sit-in organizing committee.

The protesters demanded that the United Nations should has a humanitarian role in protecting service and civil facilities, including oil facilities, and the release of the oil ships held by the coalition.
