Ministry of Health: 4,947 Cholera cases in capital secretariat since the beginning of 2019

SANAA, April 5 (YPA) – General Director of the Health Bureau in, Dr. Muathir al-Marwani, has confirmed that since the beginning of 2019, some 29,750 suspected cases of cholera have been received by hospitals and medical centers dedicated to cholera treatment.

He explained that the laboratory tests showed 4,947 negative cases of the rapid scan (RTL) out of the total cases registered in all districts of capital Sana’a, of whom 29 patients have died.

He noted that efforts are continuing in the fight against the cholera epidemic in all districts. A center was opened in Kuwait Educational Hospital with 70 beds containing medical equipment to receive the cases.

Al-Marwani stressed the opening of five centers in Saha’oub, Sabaeen, Al Wahda and Bani Al Harith districts meant to receive diarrhoea cases and treat cholera patients.

Al-Marwani furthermore called on international and humanitarian organisations to intervene urgently to supply hospitals and health centers with medical and therapeutic needs necessary to curb the spread of the epidemic.

He praised all efforts and actions taken by the Metropolitan Secretariat leadership in preventing the entry of vegetables irrigated with sewage and stagnant water
