UAE establishes military base, port in Yemen’s Socotra

SOCOTRA, April 1 (YPA) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) occupation has recently moved towards establishing and constructing a large illegal camp on the Yemeni island of Socotra, in a coastal tourist area that is one of the most beautiful and attractive areas of the island for foreign tourists.

Local sources on the island of Socotra said there were intensive Emirati movements on the island intending to create a military base, without any meaningful opposition by the exiled Hadi “government”.

They also described the presence of the Hadi “government” officials as weak and symbolic on the island.

“The UAE military command in Socotra has established a military base on the coast of the island and encircled by a long wall with surveillance cameras,” one of the sources said.

The same source also stressed that the UAE forces on the island are preventing citizens from approaching the recently stabled military base, and explained that the United Arab Emirates has used many foreign mercenaries, including Pakistanis and Afghans, to protect the base.

The sources pointed out that the UAE has been working for more than a month to fill large areas with the aim of establishing its own port on the island,

In addition, the Emirates forces have transported a large number of Socotra island residents last month, bringing them to the city of Aden for training as elite mercenary forces.
