Minister of Water meets UNICEF Resident Representative

SANAA, Feb. 27 (YPA) – Minister of Water and Environment Nabil al-Wazir on Wednesday met with UNICEF Resident Representative in Yemen Sara Nyanti.

They reviewed the joint coordination between the Ministry of Water and Environment and UNICEF and the efforts exerted by the two sides to address the repercussions and serious damage caused to the water and sanitation system as a result of the systematic bombing of Saudi-led aggression coalition states.

The meeting touched upon the steps that have been achieved and the projects and interventions implemented by the Ministry and the Organization to meet needs of citizens in the area of water and sanitation services.

The minister indicated to the expansion that has been achieved in the field of water services despite the difficulties and obstacles and the siege imposed by the aggression coalition.

Al-Wazir referred to the damage caused by the coalition air attacks in water wells of Hodeidah province, the desalination plant of Kamaran Island and in Saada provinces, as well as Al-Nahdain reservoir, which some 200,000 citizens benefit from in the capital Sanaa.

He considered the reforms implemented in the water and sanitation system since the beginning of the aggression were not easy, and came as a result of an active partnership and cooperation from donors, especially UNICEF.

The UNICEF Representative confirmed the organization’s keenness to cooperate fully with and support the ministry’s efforts in providing services and water and sanitation projects for citizens.

Nianti praised the efforts made by the ministry in several fields, especially in the fight against the cholera epidemic.
