Leadership in Sanaa is keen on immediate implementation of Stockholm agreement: FM

SANAA, Feb. 26 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf on Tuesday confirmed that the national leadership in Sanaa is keen on the immediate implementation of Stockholm agreement, as the first serious step towards the peace process.

The minister reviewed, during his meeting in Sanaa with UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths, the efforts made to implement Stockholm agreement.

In the meeting, the foreign minister indicated that Saudi-led coalition countries and the exiled Hadi’s government are not serious to implement the agreement, and they do not care about the peace process as a whole and reject any humanitarian measures to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people.

Sharaf emphasized that the Yemeni people needs actual procedures on the ground to address the humanitarian situation through tackling the issues of salaries and reopening of Sanaa International Airport to commercial and civil flights.

He called on the UN envoy to exploit the international community’s support to ask the Security Council and its permanent member states to bear their legal and moral responsibility to pressure the aggression countries to stop the war and all-out blockade imposed on the Yemeni people.

The minister said that the leadership in Sanaa, which has been steadfast in confronting the aggression for four years, is aware of the importance of peace and the return of security and stability for Yemen and the region.

The UN envoy noted that the opportunities of peace, stopping military operations and lifting the siege are still high.

Griffiths pointed to the importance of benefiting from the international momentum aiming at addressing the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, affirming that the key for doing that is the peaceful political solution in Yemen.
