SANAA, Feb. 23 (YPA) – The Republic of Yemen on Saturday welcomed the European Union (EU) Council’s recent decision issued on February 18, 2019, which reaffirmed that only a negotiated and inclusive political solution can end the conflict in Yemen.
In a letter he sent to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf renewed the commitment of the political leadership, represented by the Supreme Political Council and the Salvation Government, to the outcomes of Stockholm Agreement, which will pave the way for the rest of confidence-building steps between the parties and the resumption of political negotiations.
Sharaf stressed the importance of the international community’s role in pressuring “the aggression countries” (Saudi-led coalition) to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of Yemeni citizens, especially with regard the reopening of Sanaa International Airport to all commercial and civil flights and the payment of all the state employees’ salaries without exception.
He confirmed the full support for efforts and good offices of the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, to reach a political settlement and a sustainable peace that the Yemeni people look forward to after four years of the aggression.
