U.S. pushes reinforcements to Iraq-Syria border

SANAA, Feb. 10 (YPA) – A local official and a military officer in Anbar province, west of Iraq disclosed the arrival of U.S. reinforcements in the Iraqi Tanaf area on the border with Syria on Saturday.

According to Anadolu News Agency, the official said that US reinforcements, consisting of “Hummer” military mechanisms, cannons and other heavy weapons, reached the Tanaf area 490 km west of Ramadi, the center of Anbar province.

“The aim of these reinforcements is to secure the Iraqi border with Syria, in conjunction with the military operations launched on the Syrian side to liberate the last strongholds of Isis in Deir ez-Zor province,” he said.

In the same context, an officer of the Iraqi Army confirmed the truth of that information.

“These American reinforcements came from the al-Assad base in al-Baghdadi district, 90 km west of Ramadi, and used the international highway to pass to the Tanaf area.”

In Anbar province, the border with Syria has several bases, including the Habbaniyah base, 30 km east of Ramadi, and Assad, 90 km west of Ramadi, as well as two sites in Al-Qaim and the location east of the city of al-humid, he said.

Neither the Iraqi authorities nor the United States Administration has made a declaration on those actions.
