3 soldiers killed, 10 injured as helicopter crashes in Sudan

SANAA, Feb. 10 (YPA) –  AT least three people were killed as an Ethiopian military helicopter of the United Nations Mission in  Sudan (UNMIS) crashed on Saturday, UN reported.

The United Nations said in a statement that 23 people aboard the helicopter, three of them were killed and 10 others were injured, including three critical injuries.

The cause of the accident is not yet known, the Statement added.

The incident took place in the disputed Abyei area between Sudan and South Sudan, and it is a bridge between northern and southern Sudan.

The helicopter was carrying out a routine transfer of Ethiopian troops to support the UN force’s efforts to ensure peace and security in the Abyei area when it crashed and landed inside the compound of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), the statement added.
