Yemen prisoner agreement implementation committee meets in Amman

AMMAN, Feb. 5 (YPA) – The Supervisory Committee on the implementation of prisoners exchange agreement between the national negotiating delegation and Riyadh delegation on Tuesday held its meeting under the auspice of the United Nations in Jordan’s capital city of Amman.

At the opening session, both UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths and President of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer talked to the meeting and emphasized the necessity of completing the implementation of the prisoners’ agreement.

Abdul-Qader al-Mortada, head of the national committee for Prisoners affairs, delivered a speech of the national delegation, in which he conveyed to the UN envoy and ICRC president his dissatisfaction with the statement of the other party.

The two parties will later hold closed sessions separately with a UN team headed by Deputy UN special envoy to Yemen Muin Shreim and representatives of ICRC.

On Monday, the United Nations announced that representatives of Sanaa and Riyadh would convene in a new round of talks on the prisoner exchange agreement, and that the supervisory committee to follow up the implementation of the agreement will discuss the steps taken by the parties to finalize the lists of prisoners and to move forward to implement the agreement.
