Russian FM: Russia reserves right to retaliate if US suspend nuclear missile treaty

SANAA, Feb. 2 (YPA) – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow reserves the right to retaliate in the event of the final annulment of the medium- and short-term missile treaty by the US side.
The spokeswoman also confirmed that Moscow is ready to continue dialogue with the United States on the treaty.
Zakharova said that Washington: “So far has not submitted any evidence of the violation that occurred only E-tweets.”
US President Donald Trump said earlier on Friday, “Tomorrow, the United States will suspend its commitments to the nuclear missile treaty, and the withdrawal process, which will be completed within six months, will begin unless Russia returns to compliance with the destruction of all its violated missiles, launchers and associated equipment.
The Medium and Short Term Missile Treaty was signed on December 8, 1987.

Under the treaty, the two sides committed themselves to eliminating missiles with a range of 500 km to 5,500 km, in addition to their launchers, installations and additional equipment.
