Dozens dead, over 300 missing after dam collapse in Brazil

SANAA, Jan. 26 (YPA) – At least nine people dead and 300 others missing in a collapse of a dam in a mining complex in, the southeast Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, fire Brazilian officials said on Saturday.

“We have nine fatalities and information indicating that over 300 people,” a spokesman for the firefighters said, with a previous tally of seven dead and about 150 missing.

The mayor of Minas Gerais of Brazil, Bromadin Afimara, said Saturday that at least 50 people died after the collapse of the dam in the mine “Valle” in the state of Minas Gerais, southern Brazil.

According to the “O Dia daily newspaper”, the mayor said that he does not yet have more detailed information, because everything is “happening very quickly”, and mudflows continue to slide along the river.

Brazilian President Guerre Paulsonaro said he would fly to the area where the three dams had crashed into the mine.
