SAM: Detainees are physically tortured in illegal UAE prison in Hadramout

SANAA, Jan. 25 (YPA) -The SAM Organization for Rights and Freedoms has revealed that detainees in secret prison  belonging to the first military zone in Hadarmout province, southeastern Yemen subjected to gruesome physical torture, cruel and degrading treatment, and the so-called “Tein” prison, which has been abandoned since 2006.

According to the organization, dozens of detainees inside the prison do not know their fate in cases of enforced disappearance, intentional torture and prolonged detention without being brought before a court, as well as being prevented from receiving treatment or allowing their families to visit them.

“The detainees are being interrogated for long periods by Saudi investigators and the prison run by two people, one of whom is Abu Salim,  and the other was nicknamed as al-Khalidi, in addition to the commander of the first military region,” the organization said in a statement.

The statement asserted that most of the detainees were arrested by military agencies of the first military region without judicial orders or legal justifications.

It also pointed out that most of the prisoners were arrested from public roads and markets, where they were hidden for a whole year in some cases, without their families knowing anything about them.

“Detainees inside the prison went on two open hunger strikes because of ill-treatment, to draw the world’s attention to their sufferings, the organization said.
