Al-Qaeda claims responsibility for attack on Chadian soldiers in Mali

SANAA, Jan. 21 (YPA) – Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) on Monday claimed responsibility for Sunday’s attack which killed 10 Chadian soldiers of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Mali.

In a statement, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that 10 Chadian soldiers from the United Nations force were killed and 25 others wounded in a “jihad” attack Sunday in northeastern Mali.

He condemned what he described as a “complex attack” on the UN camp in Aguelhoc, some 200km north of Mali’s Kidal region towards the border with Algeria, despite international intervention in the past years.

The UN Secretary General called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
