SANAA, Jan. 19 (YPA) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterich announced his readiness to set up a team of international investigators to investigate the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.
Guterich called for a mandate from the Security Council to follow up on the murder of Khashoggi which he said that those directly involved were not yet held accountable.
Human Rights Watch said on Thursday that the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi was “the price of awakening to abuses in Saudi Arabia.”
This came in the 29th edition of the organization’s annual report on the human rights situation in more than 100 countries.
“It is regrettable that the price of awakening for Saudi violations is the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi,” Kenneth Roth, the organization’s executive director, said in a press conference.
He added that the incident prompted many countries to impose sanctions on the Saudi government and officials, in addition to stop the sale of arms to it.
