SANAA, Dec. 24 (YPA) – Leader of Sudan’s opposition party, Sadiq al-Mahdi, has called on President Omar al-Bashir to accept change and listen to the demands of the protesters that have been sweeping several Sudanese cities for several days.
“Peaceful moves are legal, lawful and justified by deteriorating living conditions,” said Al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, said during at a press conference held in Khartoum on Saturday, referring to “death of 22 protesters and the arrest of scores of opponents.”
He said: “In Sudan, we say the people want a new regime.”
“We support peaceful expression, condemn armed repression and urge the security forces not to oppress citizens,” al-Mahdi said.
He noted that “there are calls to the opposition to agree on the text of the memorandum and the date of the march.”
“If the regime responds, it will be all right, and if it refuses then let it to face the wrath of the people. We will call for a general strike and the rest of the intifada scenario,” he said.
