UN Envoy: Warring parties in Yemen agree to meet for peace talks in Sweden

SANAA, Nov. 17 (YPA) – The United Nations envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths on Friday announced that the Yemeni parties to the conflict are both committed to working on a political solution and that h they have given firm assurances of a renewed commitment to attend talks in Sweden.

The parties to the conflict are about to conclude an agreement between the parties on the exchange of prisoners and detainees, he said, adding that famine and disease have become the nightmare that threatens the Yemeni people.

For his part, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Mark Lowcock said that said the food situation in Yemen is catastrophic.

He added that Hodeidah’s conditions are dangerous and should avoid targeting the infrastructure, hospitals, removing obstacles to humanitarian relief and allowing food imports to reach needy families and displaced people.
