Netherlands vows to support UN ban on weapons exports to Saudi Arabia

SANAA, Nov. 16 (YPA) – The Netherlands has declared its intention to support the UN ban on weapons exports to Saudi Arabia.

The move came during a speech delivered by Stef Blok Minister of Foreign Affairs in front of the House of Representatives on Thursday on a resolution that has been passed on banning the export of arms to Riyadh on the backdrop of the war against Yemen.

“The approval of the law by the country’s deputies requires work in accordance with the UN corridors,” Blok said.

The Minister expressed regret over what Yemen is witnessing, stressing at the same time that the Netherlands is “not involved” in the process of supplying arms to the parties to the conflict, like France, the United State, and Britain, he added.

Blok pointed out that those parties do not want to impose a ban, or take advanced steps towards the Yemeni crisis.

He said that the situation in Yemen is “terrible and tragic,” and his country is trying to achieve a ceasefire and humanitarian access.
