Residents in occupied Golan hold protests against Israeli local elections

SANAA, Oct. 30 (YPA) – Local residents in the occupied Syrian Golan held mass protests on Tuesday in the town of Majdal Shams after the Israeli authorities opened ballot boxes for the municipal elections,  Al-Mayadeen channel reported.

According to the channel’s sources, the demonstrators gathered to the town square to protest against the elections held by the Israeli authorities in the town.

The town’s residents, Social figures and dignitaries took part in the sit-in, along with a wide participation of religious authorities.

The elders of Majdal Shams declared that they rejected the elections announced by the Israeli authorities and noted their association with the Syrian state, not the other way around.

The Supreme Religious Council of the villages of the occupied Golan issued a decree a religious sanctuary and boycott anyone running for local elections or voting.

The Israeli forces intervened to disperse the demonstrators and asked them to leave.
