SANAA, Oct. 24 (YPA) – The general authority for antiquities and museums condemned on Tuesday the destruction of the scholar Ahmed al-Faz’s Mosque, located in Faza area in the district of Tuhitah of Hodeidah province, by extremist Salafist groups on Monday which led to its total destruction.
In a statement obtained by Yemen Press Agency, the general authority said that this terrorist act referred to the narrow ideological doctrine of those extremist groups that destroyed the shrine and the historic mosque that had previously targeted on June 24.
“The Yemeni cultural and heritage of antiquities is not the property of anyone, neither for the group nor for an organization; it belongs to Yemen and to all humanity,” the statement read.
The statement urged all international organizations concerned with the protection of the world heritage, foremost among them UNESCO, to condemn these criminal acts against Yemeni cultural heritage, which are repeatedly targeted by outlaw terrorist groups and as a powerful tool of the Saudi-led aggression.
It also called on all community groups, local civil society organizations, social figures, writers and intellectuals to condemn this cowardly act against the human heritage and all acts that have harmed the cultural structure and heritage sites in Yemen.
