LONDON, Feb 26 – British police responded to a “major incident” that critically injured at least six people on Monday in Leicester, a central English city, after an explosion and building collapse.
“There has been a major incident…” local police wrote on Twitter. “All emergency services are currently dealing with this.”
Police investigations indicated that the incident was not linked to terrorism. but with a gas leak that caused an explosion.
Ambulance officials said in statement on Twitter “six people were injured, two critically. They were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary and doctors remained at the scene.”
Police announced closing of Carlisle Street and part of the Hinckley road in Leicester after the explosion, and called on citizens to stay away from the area, adding that all emergency services deal with the incident without explaining the cause of the blast.
