WFP announces readiness to help Yemen face “Laban” cyclone

SANAA, Oct. 10 (YPA) – The UN World Food Program (WFP) said Wednesday it is ready to provide relief and humanitarian support to areas expected to be affected by the tropical storm “Laban” in Socotra and Mahra provinces.

“WFP has prepared 750 emergency response kits in Mukala (the provincial city of Hadramout province) to provide emergency aid, in addition to 1,100 metric tons of wheat in Socotra province to be provided in the event of an emergency due to the tropical storm,” said Ali Qurishi, acting WFP representative in Yemen.

He added that a large number of relief items were prepared in Hadramout to face this emergency situation.

The program is ready to direct any available resources in Yemen to face the hurricane,” Qurishi said.

According to the Yemeni meteorology centers, the cyclone will reach the provinces of Hadramout, Socotra and Shabwa and Mahra within hours, which may cause significant damage.
