UNICEF opens office in Somalia officially

MOGADISHU, Sept. 26 (YPA) – Somali Minister of Planning, Jamal Mohammed Hassan, said during opening of UNICEF’s office on Tuesday that UNICEF’s return to work in Somalia “represents a great value for Somalia.”

“The return of international organizations to work in Somalia reflects a positive image and will support stability and will contribute to creating jobs for citizens,” said Hassan during the opening ceremony.

UNICEF program officer in Eastern and Southern Africa, Leila Bakar, said the return of the organization’s office to Somalia represents a great importance in promoting work between the two sides.

Reprehensive of the organization in Somalia described the opening of the office as a historic event.

UNICEF works in Somalia in water, health, nutrition, maternal and child, and education areas, as well as social protection.
