German Foreign hopes quick return of Saudi ambassador to Berlin

BERLIN, Sept. 26 (YPA) – German Foreign Ministry’s spokesman on Wednesday said his country “hopes the return of Saudi ambassador to Berlin quickly” after a diplomatic crisis for ten months against the backdrop of criticism of Riyadh’s policy towards Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia will return its ambassador to Germany soon, according to an agreement between foreign ministers of the two countries during a meeting they held on sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, German media have reported.

The German channel ARD said the Saudi ambassador would return to Berlin, ending a ten-month diplomatic crisis that broke out over former German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel’s criticism of Riyadh’s policy toward Lebanon. He hinted that the kingdom had detained Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri and forced him to resign.
