SANAA, Sep. 19 (YPA) – France will not appoint a new ambassador to Tehran unless it receives information from Iran about a failed plot to blow up an Iranian opposition conference in Paris in June, French officials said on Wednesday.
An Iranian diplomat working in Sweden and three others were arrested on suspicion of plotting to attack a conference of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, according to “Reuters”.
Iran said it has no relation with the plot, which described it as a deceptive operation by people from the opposition group itself.
The plot was a blow to relations at a time when France and its EU partners were seeking to salvage the nuclear deal signed by world powers with Iran in 2015.
The French ambassador in Iran left Tehran this summer and Iran should also appoint a new ambassador to Paris instead of the ambassador who left the French capital.
A French presidential source said that they have a charge d’affaires in Tehran and there is a high-level dialogue between the French and Iranian authorities. The source added that they are working together to reveal what happened to this meeting, and they will not say there is a direct link to not appoint an ambassador, but Iran has promised to give us objective facts in the coming weeks that will allow them to continue thier diplomatic relations as they are now.
A diplomatic source said France had already suspended the appointment of a new ambassador because of the plot.
