Fierce clashes erupt in Taiz as Sanaa forces thwart attack by Saudi-backed mobilizations east of city
TAIZ, Oct. 24 (YPA) – Fierce clashes broke out in the city of Taiz after Sanaa forces thwarted a surprise attack launched by Saudi-backed forces from the Taiz Axis—affiliated with the Islah Party—toward the Republican Palace road east of the city, according to local sources in the city.
The sources explained that the confrontations lasted for several hours and spanned the fronts of the Republican Palace, Al-Tashrifat, Salah, and Al-Kamp, following an attempt by the armed groups to advance toward the positions of Sanaa forces, who confirmed their readiness to handle and foil the attack in its early stages before launching a counter-offensive.
The assault was preceded by artillery and aerial preparation, involving Saudi airstrikes that targeted the Al-Hawban and Softtel areas. Meanwhile, bodies of the dead from the pro-Saudi factions reportedly remain abandoned in the streets, while the official toll of human and material losses remains unknown due to a lack of independent information.
These developments come amid the ongoing status of flashpoints as a primary contact line between the conflicting parties on the eastern fronts of Taiz.
