Sanaa Transport Ministry accuses Saudi Arabia of using Al-Rayyan airport as military base

SANAA, Oct. 22 (YPA) – The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in the Sanaa government has strongly condemned Saudi Arabia’s use of Al-Rayyan International Airport in Hadramout province as a military base to transport weapons and military equipment.

In a statement, the ministry said the civilian airport had been turned into a military corridor for transporting missiles and heavy weapons used directly in attacks on civilians in Yemeni provinces.

It described the militarization of Al-Rayyan International Airport as a war crime and a flagrant violation of international conventions and international humanitarian law.

The ministry also said the airport’s continued closure to civilian air traffic and its conversion into a military base deprived thousands of patients, students and traders of their basic rights to travel.

The ministry called on relevant international organizations and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to fulfill their responsibilities and condemn the airport’s use as a military base, warning that it posed a serious threat to international civil aviation.
