Egyptian Parliament postpones vote on deploying troops to Saudi Arabia

CAIRO, Oct. 19 (YPA) – The Egyptian House of Representatives on Monday adjourned its two-day closed-door sessions regarding President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s request for authorization to deploy military forces to Saudi Arabia without reaching a final decision.

Deliberations are scheduled to resume next Monday.

The sessions follow President el-Sisi’s announcement on Saturday—during a military academy graduation ceremony—stating that Egypt had received directives from Saudi Arabia to send troops and was prepared to take any measures requested by Riyadh to defend its security. The president subsequently called on parliament to convene an emergency session to review the authorization.

Parliamentary sources reported that high demand from lawmakers seeking the floor led the speaker to schedule additional general sessions to allow all members to voice their positions.
