SANAA, Oct. 18 (YPA) – A major fire broke out following an incident at Canadian Armed Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta on Sunday, leaving several people dead and others injured, Defence Minister David McGuinty said.
He provided no casualty figures, describing the situation as sensitive, while the RCMP joined the investigation.
Fire crews are working to contain the blaze, which spread beyond the base’s perimeter amid strong winds. No evacuation order has been issued.
Prime Minister Mark Carney, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre expressed concern and support for those affected.
Located about 180 kilometers southeast of Edmonton, the base is a major military training facility that houses the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre and the 3rd Canadian Division Training Centre.
