Tokyo imposes nighttime curfew on US forces in Okinawa

TOKYO, Oct. 07 (YPA) – Tokyo imposed a nighttime curfew on US forces in Okinawa from midnight Friday for a month, after a Japanese woman was killed by a US soldier.

US Forces Coordinator Benjamin Watson said the curfew prevents soldiers from leaving their barracks from midnight until 5 a.m., to contain public anger.

Authorities arrested Private Devin Ballard, 20 yearsold, on October 3 on suspicion of murdering and robbing a Japanese woman.

Watson added that all US forces in Japan would be subject to a 48-hour emergency operational standstill starting Wednesday at noon, without being allowed to leave their bases.
