Iran condemns attacks targeting civilians in Yemen, deeming them war crimes

TEHRAN, Sept. 28 (YPA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attacks targeting civilian areas and targets in Yemen, considering the continuation of military operations, the violation of sovereignty, and the economic blockade to be contrary to international law and the UN Charter.

In a statement, the ministry said that the recent attacks resulted in a large number of civilian casualties, including martyrs and wounded, and widespread damage to infrastructure, according to the IRNA News Agency.

It specifically mentioned airstrikes that targeted a market in Taiz on Sunday afternoon, killing and wounding more than 50 people, and airstrikes on the Khabb Wash-Sha’af district in al-Jawf, describing them as war crimes targeting defenseless civilians and destroying vital infrastructure.

It added that the continuation of operations against Yemeni cities and villages and the violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity contravene Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force. The ministry emphasized that the recent attacks launched by the Israeli occupation and the United States, along with the continued blockade, further complicate the humanitarian and political situation, while Tehran maintains its readiness to participate in a political settlement based on the agreed roadmap.
