Sanaa forces launch missile, drone strikes on Saudi Aramco facilities in Yanbu, Khamis Mushait airbase

SANAA, Sept. 16 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Wednesday that they had executed two military operations targeting vital and military sites inside Saudi Arabia, framing the attacks as a response to Saudi military operations in Yemen.

According to a military statement read by Sanaa forces spokesperson Brig. Gen. Yahya Sarie, the first operation targeted Saudi Aramco facilities in Yanbu using dozens of ballistic missiles and drones. Sarie stated that the strikes were precise and caused significant fires and widespread damage.

The second operation targeted the Khamis Mushait Airbase with a barrage of ballistic missiles, direct hits were achieved, according to the statement.

Sarie confirmed that the operations come in response to the Saudi-led blockade and air raids, noting that Saudi Arabia conducted over 450 airstrikes across various Yemeni provinces over the past week.

He emphasized that the Sanaa forces would continue military operations inside Saudi territory and target troop concentrations, adhering to an equation of reciprocal escalation until operations end and the blockade on Yemen is lifted.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sanaa forces claimed responsibility for shooting down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet over Marib province using a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile. The statement added that air defense systems subsequently intercepted two flight formations of F-15 and Typhoon aircraft searching for the wreckage, forcing them to withdraw.

The military statement reaffirmed the armed forces’ intention to defend Yemeni airspace using all available means.
