Saudi-backed forces raid Hadramout tribal leader’s home, detain his son

HADRAMOUT, Sept. 08 (YPA) – A raid on the home of Sheikh Mohammed bin Makhbout Al-Sayari in Hadramout Governorate has sparked widespread anger among local residents, local sources reported.

According to local sources, the Saudi-backed “Emergency Forces” raided the sheikh’s home the Manwakh area on Tuesday. During the raid, they detained his son, Abu Bakr, along with several of his companions without providing any clear charges.

The operation reportedly involved the confiscation of personal items and weapons

The raid sparked condemnation from the Al-Sayar tribe and broader Hadrami tribal alliances.

Tribal representatives issued formal statements denouncing the raid as a violation of traditional customs and laws, demanding the immediate release of the detainees and an investigation into the commanding officers involved.

Rights activists said the raid reflected a pattern of humiliation and heavy-handed conduct by Saudi-backed forces against residents of southern and eastern Yemen.

They also accused Saudi Arabia of seeking to draw people from the southern provinces into “futile battles” against Sanaa forces, and called instead for confronting Saudi-backed forces in Seiyun and Mukalla.

The incident came about a month after Saudi-backed Emergency Forces raided the home of Sheikh Ali Haftan Al-Sayari in the Hadhay area of Al-Abr district.

Several residents were arrested and valuable personal belongings were reportedly looted from the house, triggering clashes with Saudi-backed forces after Sheikh Ali bin Haftan Al-Sayari called for tribal mobilization.
