Iran says countries must reject, not implement US sanctions

TEHRAN, Aug. 28 (YPA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Friday that all countries are obligated to refrain from implementing U.S. sanctions and from recognizing or endorsing any conditions or consequences arising from illegal measures.

In a statement carried by Iran’s Tasnim news agency, the ministry said U.S. economic sanctions against Iran, regardless of their designation, are illegal and entirely unjustified, alleging that they violate the UN Charter, international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

The ministry said participation in enforcing unilateral U.S. sanctions amounts to imposing one state’s unlawful will on independent countries and disrupting their legitimate economic and trade relations, which undermines the principle of sovereign equality among states.

Condemning U.S. economic terrorism, the ministry reaffirmed Iran’s determination to use all available capabilities to defend the country against a combined U.S.-Israeli military, economic and hybrid war.

The statement also criticized Washington’s use of the U.S. dollar to pressure other countries into complying with its policies toward Iran, arguing that such measures violate national sovereignty and the right of UN member states to self-determination.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry further argued that U.S. sanctions violate the principles of non-interference in states’ internal affairs and opposition to restrictions on international cooperation, citing relevant UN General Assembly resolutions.

The ministry said the U.S. economic campaign against Iran forms part of an aggressive war waged by the United States and Israel enemy against Iran over the past year and a half, warning that the confrontation has placed regional and international peace and security at risk.
