UKMTO: Tanker struck by unknown projectile in Strait of Hormuz

 DUBAI, Aug. 27 (YPA) – A vessel was hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said early on Thursday.

All crew members aboard the tanker were reported safe and accounted for, while no environmental impact had been reported, the maritime agency said.

 Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

 UKMTO advised vessels operating in the area to exercise caution while transiting the Strait of Hormuz and to report any suspicious activity. 

The incident comes amid continued warnings from Iran to commercial vessels using the southern transit corridor through the Strait of Hormuz.

  Tehran has maintained that the corridor, established at the urging of the United States as a designated “safe zone,” violates the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

 The Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf remain severely insecure amid ongoing US-Israeli aggression against Iran, which led Tehran to close the strategic waterway—severely disrupting shipping through a corridor vital for one-fifth of global oil exports.
