Qatari Prime Minister set to visit Tehran in bid to reduce regional tensions

TEHRAN, Aug. 27 (YPA) – Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, is expected to visit Tehran on Thursday in an effort to de-escalate tensions and create conditions conducive to dialogue, amid an exchange of threats between Iran and the United States.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari said the talks would cover regional security, the resumption of dialogue and “freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the need for it to return to the status quo prior to February 28”.

On Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Al Thani’s visit comes as part of ongoing consultations between the two countries aimed at expanding bilateral relations and promoting peace and security in the region.

Baghaei added that Sheikh Mohammed would meet with senior Iranian officials to discuss Qatar’s ongoing mediation efforts and address broader regional developments.
