Iran adds lifting of Yemen blockade to conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN, Aug. 26 (YPA) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is conditional on ending the war on all fronts, lifting the blockade, and resolving the situation in Yemen.

According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, Gharibabadi explained that Tehran will not take any step before the United States fully implements its commitments. He emphasized that Iran does not trust Washington and noted that Tehran informed Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, that it was not the party that breached previous understandings.

He pointed out that if Washington wants the strait reopened, it must fulfill Iran’s conditions, warning that continued US pressure could prompt Tehran to reveal new capabilities. He stressed that the Strait of Hormuz is not Iran’s only bargaining chip.

Gharibabadi further affirmed that the Iranian response to US sanctions will not be limited to traditional measures, but will target the economic interests of the entities imposing sanctions. He indicated that Tehran will not necessarily wait to be attacked and retains the option of taking preemptive action if circumstances require.
