Canada warns domestic firms against risks of doing business with Zionist settlements

OTTAWA, Aug. 23 (YPA) – Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand has warned domestic companies of the legal, financial, and reputational risks associated with business activities linked to Israeli settlements.

On Saturday, Anand stated that the Canadian government advises businesses against engaging in any activities that directly or indirectly support or facilitate Israeli settlements or related acts of violence.

She emphasized Ottawa’s “longstanding position” that Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are illegal under international law, urging Canadian firms to avoid related economic and financial transactions.

The warning coincides with Canada hardening its stance on settlement expansion and settler violence. Last June, Ottawa imposed a new package of sanctions on individuals and entities accused of supporting or financing violence committed by extremist settlers against Palestinians and their property.

The Canadian government maintains that settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories violate international law and undermine prospects for a just and lasting peace in the region.
