Mukalla witnesses partial civil disobedience, tensions rise in Sayoun following removal of STC symbols
HADRAMOUT, Aug. 17 (YPA) – The city of Mukalla, the provincial capital of Hadramout, observed partial civil disobedience on Monday following a call by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).
The action was called to protest deteriorating public services and economic conditions, and to demand an end to what the STC described as “Saudi guardianship.”
Human rights and media sources reported that the civil disobedience lasted until 10:00 AM, resulting in the closure of several commercial shops and the disruption of local transportation. The sources held the local authorities—allied with Saudi Arabia—responsible for failing to address the living and service crises.
In a related context, factions affiliated with the STC condemned the removal of STC flags, slogans, and portraits of its president from the streets of Sayoun city and the Maduda area by the Saudi-backed “Dera Al-Watan” and “Emergency” forces during overnight raids involving armored vehicles.
A statement issued by the “Hadramout Youth Revolutionaries” warned the armed forces against provocative actions, emphasizing that such practices escalate tensions in the region.
