Saudi-backed government adds $10 million to monthly living allowance lists abroad

RIYADH, Aug. 16 (YPA) – The Saudi-backed Yemeni government has added $10 million to monthly allowance payments designated for affiliated officials and activists residing outside the country, raising total monthly allocations to $22 million, political sources reported.

According to the sources, Presidential Leadership Council’s Chairman Rashad al-Alimi formed a special committee that included Prime Minister Zindani and Office Director Yahya Al-Shuaibi, alongside three other members. The committee was tasked with adding 126 individuals—who received appointment decisions in recent weeks—to the payment schedules.

The sources stated that funds are disbursed monthly under the “living allowance” category, with a minimum allocation of $7,000 per person. They added that figures affiliated with the Islah Party account for approximately 70% of the total allocations.

These financial additions come amid severe living conditions, a sharp drop in currency purchasing power, widespread public sector salary delays, and worsening basic service crises—including electricity and cooking gas shortages—in Aden and government-controlled areas.
