Security officer assassinated in central Marib by Islah elements

MARIB, Aug. 12 (YPA) – A security officer affiliated with the Saudi-backed 177th Brigade was killed in central Marib City by gunmen affiliated with the Islah Party, in an incident highlighting growing tensions among factions aligned with Riyadh.

According to tribal and human rights sources, two gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on Zaid Mohammed Muqbil Al-Aishimi Al-Qayfi, identified as the brigade’s security officer, on Tuesday. Al-Aishimi, who was from Al-Jawf Governorate, was killed instantly in the city center.

The sources said the gunmen ambushed Al-Aishimi on one of the city’s main streets before fleeing to an unknown location. The motive for the killing remains unclear.

They added that surveillance cameras at nearby shops captured images identifying the assailants, who were reportedly directly affiliated with Islah-linked security forces in Marib.

Following the incident, Marib City has reportedly witnessed heightened armed tribal mobilization, as members of tribes from Al-Jawf and Al-Bayda expressed outrage over Al-Aishimi’s killing and demanded the unconditional handover of those responsible.
