ADEN, July 26 (YPA) – Sami Khairan, head of the Workers’ Union in Aden, was injured on Sunday when armed elements aboard Saudi-affiliated military vehicles stormed the General Federation of Trade Unions headquarters in the Mualla district, forcing staff and workers to evacuate the building at gunpoint.
A local rights source reported that the raid on the building, which is affiliated with the “dissolved” UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), stemmed from escalating internal disputes over the federation’s leadership involving Mervat Al-Salami, head of the Aden Trade Union Federation.
The armed assault comes days after STC-aligned union leaders staged a protest in front of the United Nations headquarters in Aden to denounce deteriorating living conditions.
