Iran FM: ‘Bab al-Mandab issue must be resolved through regional dialogue’

TEHRAN, July 26 (YPA) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the issue of the Bab al-Mandab Strait extends beyond Iran’s regional role.

In a statement, he stressed that its roots lie in longstanding disputes involving Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and other regional states, and should therefore be resolved through regional dialogue and diplomacy.

Araghchi emphasized that there is no military solution to the crises in Yemen, Bab al-Mandab, or the wider region, calling for dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, as well as among the various Yemeni parties and regional countries.

He added that Tehran is prepared to play a positive and constructive role should direct talks between Yemen and Saudi Arabia begin.

He further stated that the measures taken by the Yemenis are aimed at breaking the blockade imposed on Yemen, asserting that the roots of the Yemeni crisis cannot be attributed to Iran.

Araghchi argued that the successive wars in Yemen have failed to resolve the conflict and have instead further complicated the situation.
